Aquarius Blue Moon: remembering & completing

Although there are two ways of calculating a Blue Moon, the contemporary, and most common way is when there are two Full Moons with in the same month- the second dubbed a Blue Moon. These occur once (occasionally twice) every few years, which is why it caries colloquial meaning of rarity. Friday’s Full Moon, at 8° Aquarius, is one of these Blue Moon’s. It is the first one since 2012 and we will not have another until 2018.

With any Full Moon we are called to complete things, celebrating all the work that we have done to get there. At this point in the Lunar cycle the Moon has reached her zenith, and will soon begin to wane in preparation for the birthing of the new, in two weeks with the New Moon. With this Blue Moon falling in Aquarius we are called to honor and bring into completion and release those things in our lives that relate to our community, our own uniqueness, areas in our lives where we may operate in a detached or disconnected way and/or were we are working to be innovative in our lives. This is a time to both complete things and let go for that which is not support you are you work to achieve your highest potential.

Additionally, Venus, who has been retrograde (Rx) for just under a week, will be dancing her way back into Leo (the opposite sign of Antiquarians in the zodiac). As I’ve been thinking about this Full Moon I keep finding my mind drifting back to a song a I use to sing at open mike-nights that seems to reflect some of what this Full Moon and Venus Rx back in Leo is about:

“There’s a blue moon shining

When I am reminded of all we’ve been through

Such a blue moon shining

Does it ever shine down on you?

You act as if it doesn’t hurt you at all

Like I’m the only one who’s getting up from a fall

Don’t you remember now don’t you recall

Just once in a very blue moon

Just once in a very blue moon

Just once in a very blue moon

And I feel one coming on soon

Just once in a very blue moon” – Patrick Alger/Eugene Levine

In these few lines are contained the reflection on past love that Venus Rx brings, with the longing to be done and detachment that is aligned with this Aquarius Full Moon.

While Aquarius is related to community, it also love space – take some time for yourself this Friday and reflect on what it is that you want to release. As Aquarius is an air sign it would be to your benefit to speak, out loud, that which you are longing to let go of, giving something voice, naming it, will aid in the completion and release process.
