It’s Eclipse season again. Although the time within the calendar year eclipse season takes place varies year to year, we always have a pair of eclipses back-to-back, about twice a year. Enter tomorrow’s Total Lunar Eclipse at 7:13 AM (EDT) 5˚ 25’ Sagittarius, the first one of 2021.
As you may have seen in the plethora of eclipse postings out there, this will be a Blood Moon. But that is just because when the Moon is fully eclipsed, it looks blood red. So, while this is not an unimportant point, it’s not unique to this Eclipse; all total lunar Eclipse is are Blood Moons.
There’s been a lot out there on the inter-webs about tonight’s Super Wolf Blood Moon. A mouthful to be sure, it sounds a lot more fantastical than it really is. That’s not to say that a total lunar eclipse is without significance. But before we get into its meaning let’s first demystify some of the other language being attached to it.
For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, today is the Winter Solstice. The time when we have the least amount of Sunlight all year. This year, as it happens, the next day, about 20hrs later is a Full Moon. Before we get to the Moon, let’s first talk a bit about this, the longest night of the year.
It’s remarkable how fast this year has gone. Somehow Saturday the 4th of November will be the second to last Full Moon of the year. According to The Farmer’s Almanac the Algonquin, an indigenous tribe of North America, referred to this Moon as the Beaver Moon. As with all symbolism, Beaver is many things, they […]
For years and years when it comes to working with and writing on the phases of the Moon, I have leaned heavily to the New Moon. The New Moon is about the New. What we want to create, give birth to, invoke in some form or fashion. And while all of that is fabulous and […]
Yay Mercury is now direct (i.e. no longer retrograde) everything is going to get easier; right? Well kinda sorta maybe… First off, we’re still in the shadow. That is Mercury will be making-up ground and not fully giving voice to the new until the 19th, so don’t be surprised if you’re still needing to re-due […]
Tomorrow’s (Feb 22nd at 10:20 AM PST) Full Moon falls at 3˚ Virgo. As it is the Full moon the Sun is spinning at the polarity point in Pisces. Maybe I’m bias, or sensitive do to Virgo’s placement in my own astrology, but I think Virgo tends to get kicked around and looked down upon […]
There’s nothing that is particularly auspicious about the December Full Moon falling on Christmas, despite the various post going around that the two have not fallen on the same night since 1977. Having said that, it is a beautiful reflection of what many will be doing in the coming days. The Moon is linked […]
Although there are two ways of calculating a Blue Moon, the contemporary, and most common way is when there are two Full Moons with in the same month- the second dubbed a Blue Moon. These occur once (occasionally twice) every few years, which is why it caries colloquial meaning of rarity. Friday’s Full Moon, at […]
Deep Transformation The up coming Full Moon at 13.23˚ Scorpio occurs just after Sunset on May 3rd – here in Seattle. Full moons are often times of intensity, with big emotions commonplace. And on a clear night a Full Moon can truly be a breathtaking sight; one that even the most cynical among us finds […]
